As a legislator, Senator McCoy has fought to make Iowa's work places smoke-free, to increase support for education at all levels, to ensure quality health, vision and dental care for all children, to support property and income tax relief, and to fight drunk boating and require beer keg registration.

Matt is vice-president of the Downtown Community Alliance.  A graduate of the Des Moines Leadership Institute, he served on the Polk County Conservation Board for five years and on the board of directors for the Central Iowa YMCA, the Iowa Council of International Understanding, and the Youth Emergency Services & Shelter.
