State Senator Matt McCoy is serving his fourth term in the Iowa Senate after
serving two terms in the Iowa House of Representatives.
He represents Senate District 31, which includes the
south and southwest portions of Des Moines.
Senator McCoy is chair
of the Transportation & Infrastructure Budget Subcommittee and vice-chair
of the Ways & Means and Appropriations committees. He serves on the Commerce,
Local Government, and Transportation committees. Senator McCoy also
sits on the Capitol Planning Commission.
As a legislator, Senator
McCoy has fought to make Iowa's work places smoke-free, to increase support
for education at all levels, to ensure quality health, vision and dental
care for all children, to support property and income tax relief, and to fight drunk boating and require beer keg
registration.
Matt is vice-president of the Downtown Community Alliance.
A graduate of the Des Moines Leadership Institute, he served on the Polk
County Conservation Board for five years and on the board of directors for
the Central Iowa YMCA, the
Iowa Council of International Understanding, and the Youth Emergency
Services & Shelter.

Matt graduated
from Dowling High School in 1984 and earned
his B.A. degree from Briar Cliff
College in 1988. Active in the Boy Scouts of America his entire life,
he attained the rank of Eagle Scout in 1981 and continues to support the Boy
Scouts' programs.
He has one son, Jack,
and attends Plymouth Congregational Church.
